Quality Assurance and Inspections for Masonry Wall Systems
This presentation provides an overview to the inspection and quality assurance requirements associated with loadbearing masonry construction required by the 2012 International Building Code (IBC and IRC) and TMS 602-11 “Specifications for Masonry Structures”.

Learning Objectives:
   1. Distinguish between Quality Assurance and Quality Control and what role the architect plays in setting quality standards.
   2. Understand the Code requirements for inspections of concrete masonry structures.
   3. Identify testing requirements for the various levels of concrete masonry inspection.
   4. Understand evaluation tolerances in masonry construction

Don McMican, PE, F-ACI, CCS 
President of DGM Consultants, P.A.
Stuctural Engineering and Masonry Consultant

Don is a professional engineer, Certified Construction Specifier, and Certified Special Inspector for Structural Masonry. As owner of DMG Consultants for the last 19 years, Don has provided consulting services and specializes in masonry related projects. Since 1996 Don has provided masonry consulting services on numerous projects throughout Kansas, including extensive reviews of schools. His design experience includes new buildings; analysis, renovation, and historic preservation of existing buildings. He provides quality assurance evaluation services to improve the quality of new and existing masonry for several clients. Don also serves on committees for TMS 402/602, responsible for masonry building code requirements and specification that are adopted by the IBC. Don has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland.

Mark is the National Vice President of Architectural for Midwest Block & Brick. He is recognized as a “Certified Consultant of Concrete Masonry” by the National Concrete Masonry Association (NCMA), and member of the Masonry Committee of NCMA. He is also a Member of The Masonry Society and CSI. Mark is past Chairman of NCMA and also Missouri Concrete Masonry Council; and past President of CSI St. Louis. Mark has a BS in Business Management from Missouri State University.
