This session will discuss industry standards and guidelines regarding exterior tile installations. Participants will be shown how to plan for a successful installation. They will learn how to specify industry standards that are relevant to exterior installations. Participants will also have a good understanding on how to select proper materials for the job while taking environmental conditions into consideration.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the dynamics of exterior installations and how to plan for success.

  • Know how to specify with industry standards that are relevant to exterior installations.

  • Understand critical additional details such as flashing, waterproofing, tile and stone selection, sealers.

  • Learn proper selection of Stone, Gauged Porcelain Tile Panels / Slabs and porcelain tiles in exterior and understand the affect of environmental conditions.

Mike Granatowski

Mike Granatowski is the Director of Architectural & Commercial Projects for MAPEI and has been employed with MAPEI for 19 years. Mike has been working within the flooring industry for more than 40 years. He has specialized in tile and stone installation systems, where he has been involved with installation, distribution and sales, focusing on design professionals. During his tenure at Mapei, Mike has done presentations on systems installations to major architectural firms, national accounts, and at major trade shows throughout the United States, Italy, Portugal, and Brazil. Mike is a graduate of the University of Arizona, is an active member in CSI (Construction Specification Institute), and is an avid road cyclist.
