Masonry Camp Begins

Masonry Camp began yesterday with a presentation by Jeanne Gang, founding prinicipal of Studio Gang.  Jeanne has designed major projects throughout the United States and is a MacArthur Fellow, author and noted teacher.  Her practice has long focussed on collaboration and material exploration, which makes her perspective uniquely suited to Masonry Camp.  Later in the evening, camp participants got to know each other while completing a foam brick challenge.  The structures they created had to be as tall as possible, with openings and mulitple bond patterns - and able to withstand "high winds."  Today, campers have turned to more serious tasks, learning about masonry materials and design through lectures and special hands-on activities.
